Glossary
G Games worked behind home plate this season.
Pitches Total called pitches (called strikes + balls). Does not include swings, foul balls, or hit-by-pitches.
Acc% Accuracy — the percentage of called pitches where the umpire made the correct call based on the true strike zone boundaries.
CS% Called Strike Rate — the percentage of all called pitches that were ruled strikes, whether correct or not. Higher values indicate an umpire who calls more strikes overall.
OOZ K% Out-of-Zone Strike % — the percentage of pitches outside the true strike zone that were incorrectly called strikes. A higher rate means the umpire tends to expand the zone (helps pitchers).
IZ Ball% In-Zone Ball % — the percentage of pitches inside the true strike zone that were incorrectly called balls. A higher rate means the umpire tends to contract the zone (helps hitters).
Zone Size Zone Size Factor — the umpire's out-of-zone strike rate divided by the league average. A value above 1.00 means a bigger-than-average zone; below 1.00 means a tighter zone.
Favor Favor Index — calculated as OOZ K% minus IZ Ball%. A positive value means the umpire makes more incorrect strikes than incorrect balls (pitcher-friendly errors). A negative value means more incorrect balls (hitter-friendly errors). Note: this measures error balance, not zone size — an umpire can have a tight zone overall but still lean pitcher-friendly if their few mistakes skew toward bad strikes.
ABS ABS Challenges — the total number of Automated Ball-Strike system challenge requests made against this umpire's calls during the season.
OT% ABS Overturn % — the percentage of ABS challenges that resulted in the umpire's original call being overturned. A higher rate suggests more reviewable incorrect calls.
Shad Hi Shadow High % — the called strike rate on pitches located just above the top of the strike zone (within ~5 inches). Higher values mean the umpire tends to expand their zone upward.
Shad Lo Shadow Low % — the called strike rate on pitches located just below the bottom of the strike zone (within ~5 inches). Higher values mean the umpire tends to expand their zone downward.
Run Env Run Environment Factor — the average total runs scored in this umpire's games divided by the league average. Values above 1.00 indicate higher-scoring games; below 1.00 indicates lower-scoring games.
